The milestone marks the first case for the practice and among the first in Florida
BRADENTON, Fla. — Coastal Orthopedics, a full-service provider of comprehensive orthopedic surgery, sports medicine, spine care, diagnostic imaging and physical therapy service, recently announced that Dr. R. Stephen Otte, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon and shoulder and elbow specialist, just completed his first case using the OsseoFit® Stemless Shoulder System.
The OsseoFit is an anatomically shaped left- and right-side specific implant that is designed for stable initial and biological fixation by optimizing anatomic humeral fit to provide a robust solution for stemless anatomic shoulder arthroplasty.
Ideal patients for anatomic shoulder arthroplasty and specifically stemless anatomic replacements are active individuals with shoulder arthritis and an intact rotator cuff. Surgeons at Coastal Orthopedics will replace the ball and socket that has arthritis with a metal and plastic joint to provide pain relief, with the stemless design allowing for more bone conservation. The implant provides a simple and reliable method for achieving precise anatomic tendon repair following joint replacement.
“At Coastal Orthopedics, our goal is to provide the most up-to-date advanced technologies and implants to improve our patients’ lives,” said Dr. Otte. “I believe this implant is the next step towards that goal. I am always searching for ways to better utilize technology and advancements in design to better serve the patients we treat, and I think by giving a patient a more perfect implant that matches their unique anatomy, we have a better chance at the best outcome. The goal is to help them return to their activities and reduce the chances that they will need a revision surgery later in life.”
Dr. Otte is the first surgeon at Coastal Orthopedics to complete a procedure using the OsseoFit Stemless Shoulder System, as well as among the first few surgeons in Florida.
“We have surgeons at Coastal who have trained at some of the nation’s top academic institutions and bring that expertise and world-class care to our community every day at Coastal Orthopedics,” said Dr. Otte. “It’s exciting to introduce a new technology that I believe will enhance the lives of my patients and a privilege to be the first in our practice to do so.”
