My name is Patsy Patterson and I have worked as radiologic technologist at Coastal Orthopedics for 26 years. I graduated from Mercy -St. Lukes School of Radiologic Technology in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1983. I worked at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics as a radiologic technologist from 1983-1990 and Blake Hospital in Bradenton from 1990-1998. I always enjoyed a large hospital setting because of the variety of x-ray exams and the trauma. I originally applied at Coastal Orthopedics, which at that time was Bradenton Orthopedics, because our children were in preschool and I wanted a position that did not require call or holiday coverage. What I found at Coastal Orthopedics was a practice that is cutting edge, with a wide variety of interesting exams and cases.
I work at our Lakewood Ranch office. Our orthopedic surgeons have all done fellowships in a particular specialty and along with our physiatrist, Dr. Ottaviani, are excellent doctors. On any given day, I x-ray anything from the cervical spine to the feet. The fast pace and variety keeps me engaged. There is always something new to see and learn which I love.
I also enjoy getting to know our patients. I see the patient come in initially after their injury and often x-ray them multiple times in their recovery/post op process. It is so rewarding to see them get better with each visit. Our doctors are excellent, patients get a great result and make my job so much easier!
Coastal Orthopedics promotes a culture of cooperation and camaraderie between employees. I have seen multiple acts of kindness between employees and it is so nice to work with these people. My supervisor is very supportive of any X-ray technologists who would like to cross train in MRI or our surgery center. This is a great place to learn and enhance your skills. Coastal hosts a lot of fun employee appreciation events such as a pancake breakfast , bowling party and zoo outing to name a few. Also, Coastal really took great care of their employees during the uncertain times of Covid and for that I will be eternally grateful.
During my free time, I enjoy time with my family. We have 3 grandsons which is the best! I also enjoy traveling , reading and am a huge Minnesota Vikings fan.
