About Dr. Kumar

Dr. Avi Kumar is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, fellowship-trained in shoulder and elbow surgery. He has been performing the reverse total shoulder replacement since 2004 when it was first FDA approved and has performed over 1500 total shoulders to date, with a success rate of greater than 90% based on patient satisfaction and function. Dr. Kumar has been a key opinion leader for medical device companies and is a selected Peer Reviewer for the Journal of Shoulder & Elbow Surgery. He has also received several U.S. Patents, and is currently working on a medical device for shoulder fractured which is being reviewed by the FDA.

When Dr. Kumar is not treating patients, he enjoys spending time with his wife, running and traveling to far away lands with his family – new experiences and cultures feed his inspiration for innovative patent ideas. Dr. Kumar attributes his successful clinical outcomes to his patient care philosophy: shared decision treatment model that facilitates optimal healing and function by engaging patients to work together to accomplish a desired goal.
