About Dr. McCormick
Dr. Johnathon R. McCormick is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in orthopedic sports medicine, complex knee reconstruction, shoulder replacement, and hip preservation. The goal of his practice is to restore motion and help patients return to their active lifestyles through cutting-edge arthroscopic techniques, joint replacement, and personalized sports medicine care. He treats athletes and active individuals of all ages — pediatric, adolescent, and adult — with a focus on minimally invasive procedures that facilitate faster recovery, minimize pain, and optimize functional outcomes. His practice spans arthroscopic and open surgery of the shoulder, hip, knee, and elbow, including rotator cuff repair, shoulder instability, and UCL (Tommy John) reconstruction; hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) and joint preservation; complex knee ligament reconstruction, cartilage preservation, and orthobiologics; primary and revision shoulder replacement; and advanced training in pediatric athlete-specific techniques.
Dr. McCormick completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the prestigious Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, followed by advanced fellowship training in sports medicine and shoulder and elbow surgery at OrthoCarolina. He then completed an international fellowship in Japan under Dr. Soshi Uchida — a world leader in hip arthroscopy and joint preservation — and Dr. Norimasa Takahashi, further advancing his expertise in complex hip, shoulder, and knee techniques. Throughout his clinical training, he served as a team physician for elite collegiate and professional sports teams, including the Carolina Panthers (NFL), Charlotte FC (MLS), Charlotte Knights (AAA baseball), Chicago Steel (USHL hockey), NFL Combine, and multiple NCAA Division I and II programs.
Dr. McCormick is an accomplished researcher who has authored more than 85 peer-reviewed publications, technical surgical guides, and book chapters, and has been recognized as a top 10% most published and most cited physicians in his specialty. He serves as a peer reviewer for Arthroscopy: The Journal of Arthroscopic & Related Surgery and the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, and brings a deep commitment to evidence-based care and putting his patients’ long-term well-being first.
Outside the clinic, Dr. McCormick is a lifelong Wisconsin sports fan and enjoys spending time with his fiancée and their bernedoodle, exploring new local spots around the area. He is looking forward to learning to deep sea fish and dive along Florida’s Gulf Coast.
