About Dr. Federico
Vincent Federico, MD is a fellowship-trained Orthopaedic spine surgeon at Coastal Orthopedics specializing in ultra-minimally invasive, motion-preserving, and same-day spine surgery. He treats the full spectrum of cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine conditions, including sciatica, disc herniations, spinal stenosis, radiculopathy, myelopathy, degenerative disc disease, spondylolisthesis, osteoporotic compression fractures, and failed prior spine surgery.
Dr. Federico believes the best spine surgery is often the surgery a patient never needs. He takes an individualized approach to every patient, recommending surgery only when nonoperative treatments have been explored or when surgery offers the best path to recovery. When surgery is necessary, he specializes in muscle-sparing, minimally invasive, and motion-preserving techniques designed to minimize tissue damage, postoperative pain, and help patients recover more naturally, while returning to work, sports, and activities they enjoy more quickly.
To provide the highest level of precision and safety, Dr. Federico incorporates many of the most advanced technologies available in spine surgery, including computer navigation, robotic-assisted surgery, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence-assisted surgical planning. These technologies allow for personalized surgical planning while minimizing disruption to healthy muscles, nerves, and surrounding tissues.
A Florida native, Dr. Federico graduated with honors from the University of Florida before earning his medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine, where he graduated among the top of his class and received multiple academic and research awards.
He completed his Orthopaedic surgery residency at the prestigious Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush/Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL, one of the nation’s leading Orthopaedic training programs. He gained additional fellowship training in Orthopaedic and Neurosurgical techniques in minimally invasive, robotic-assisted, outpatient, revision, and complex spine surgery at the internationally recognized Rothman Orthopaedic Institute/Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.
An internationally recognized spine researcher, Dr. Federico has been named in the top 1% of researchers nationwide. He has authored more than 225 peer-reviewed publications, scientific abstracts, and presentations, received research funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and AO Spine, and earned multiple national research honors, including first place awards from the North American Spine Society (NASS) and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).
Dr. Federico has served as an assisting team physician for the Chicago Bulls, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Fire, Philadelphia Phillies, and professional athletes from around the world. He is committed to providing every patient—from elite athletes to active adults and retirees—with the same personalized, compassionate care focused on helping them regain their quality of life.
Dr. Federico is proud to return home to Florida after training with many of the nation’s leading spine surgeons and is committed to providing every patient with personalized, world-class spine care. Outside of caring for patients, he enjoys spending time with his family and fiancée, staying active, exploring new restaurants, cheering on the Florida Gators, and traveling.
