What is an Acute Injury?
An acute injury is an injury that occurs suddenly and usually (but not always) associated with trauma. This type of injury can occur while being active or just by moving the wrong way coming out of a resting position. Frequently this injury is caused by a trip or fall.
Examples of Acute Injury include bone fractures, sprains, joint dislocations, or any type of joint, tendon, muscle, or bone pain that occurs suddenly.
When should I go to the ER?
If you think your injury may be life-threatening go to the Emergency Room as soon as possible. Examples of these situations include: if you have hit your head, have abdominal or chest pain, any injury that had profuse bleeding, any fracture in which the bone has penetrated through the skin, fainting or dizziness, sudden numbness or weakness, or difficulty breathing.
