BRADENTON, Fla. — Coastal Orthopedics, a full-service provider of comprehensive orthopedic surgery, sports medicine, spine care, diagnostic imaging and physical therapy service, recently had three of its physicians named to Newsweek’s America’s Leading Doctors 2025 list: Dr. David Cashen, Dr. Avi Kumar and Dr. Alan Valadie.
Dr. David Cashen and Dr. Alan Valadie were recognized as leading doctors in hip surgery, and Dr. Avi Kumar was recognized as a leader in shoulder surgery.
The comprehensive ranking spotlights more than 2,800 of the nation’s most respected doctors across 15 specialties in hospital systems around the country, including hip, knee, pain management and sports medicine, among others.
To compile its list, Newsweek partners with the global data research firm Statista to conduct a nationwide survey of actively practicing physicians affiliated with hospitals. According to Statista, the rankings are based on a comprehensive analysis of four key data sources: physician performance metrics, a state-by-state online survey, quality scores and professional certifications.
Dr. David Cashen is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who has 18 years of experience in joint replacement surgery. He has a special interest in knee surgeries, hip replacement surgeries (anterior approach) and complex revision surgeries. He completed two fellowships in joint replacement at both the world-renowned Anderson Orthopaedic Clinic in Virginia and Zimmer Arthroplasty in New Zealand.
Dr. Avi Kumar is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, fellowship-trained in shoulder and elbow surgery. He has been performing the reverse total shoulder replacement since 2004 when it was first FDA approved and has performed over 2,000 total shoulders to date, with a success rate of greater than 90 percent based on patient satisfaction and function. Most recently, Dr. Avi Kumar invented a new plate called the netBiologics Gaudi Plate in order to treat shoulder fractures.
Dr. Alan Valadie is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in adult hip and knee reconstruction, including primary and revision hip and knee replacement, as well as partial knee resurfacing. He focuses on minimally invasive techniques, including robotic knee replacement and direct anterior hip replacement surgery, and has performed over 16,000 joint replacement procedures over his 28 years in practice.
“We are truly honored to have three of our physicians recognized as America’s Leading Doctors by Newsweek,” said Paige LeMay, CEO of Coastal Orthopedics. “This recognition reflects the exceptional dedication of our entire medical team to providing world-class care, from diagnosis to treatment. We are proud to see our physicians honored on a national stage for the excellence they bring to our patients every day.”
